Ah Christmas of 2009 one that I will remember.

Now not for the reasons why most would think.

I did not get a Ferrari ( I am still scratching my head on this one) Since I did write a letter to Santa and was a good boy all year???

Hmm it looks like I am going to have to be an extra good boy next year to get that Ferrari.

Now the reason for my etched memories of Christmas of 2009 is rather simple.

A guest ruined my Christmas.

Yes folks I said it.

Out of the kindness of my own heart I invited someone whom was spending Christmas alone due to no family or no significant others close to them into my home.

Turkey, salmon, mashed potato’s, cranberry sauce, garlic toast, salad, wine, pumpkin pie. It was really quite a spread if I do say so myself.

Guest arrived and within 15 minutes the annoying sound of someone having their cell phone ringer volume way to high permeated through out my living room.

Guest picked it up and started to talk in the middle of a conversation with me???

So no problem I would have thought that the guest would have had the decency to tell the caller that they are over at someone else’s place for Christmas dinner.

But that was not done.

About another 20 minutes later the screech of the cell phone bellowed once again.

My guest once again picked it up and proceeded to talk not for 1 or 2 minutes  but 10 minutes in length!

I am not the kind of person to point out a person’s social retardation.  But looking back now I think I really should have.

So another call comes in and is picked up in the same manner as before right in the middle of a conversation.

So fast forward to sitting at the table eating dinner. My guest was so kind as to place their cell phone on my table right beside them so they could answer it while we were eating dinner!!!

Which of course happened. Not once but twice.

My guest said oh my friend got hurt last night and has a broken nose and chipped tooth.

And I said ya so what. Been there done that. And I am still around.

The story got even more shady when my guest oh I have to go take him to the hospital since he does not have  a car???

Have you ever heard of a taxi? Or if your friend is in such dire straights call an ambulance.

So after asking for a piece of cake which I was preparing for my guest which they had requested another call came in.

My guest told me I have to leave right away.

No thought what so ever about the fact that a) I had invited them into my home on a very special day b) the sub-savage behavior of taking calls at a guests dinner table c) the complete ignorance of knowing what they had done wrong. d)And the idea by just saying sorry everything will be ok???

But now come to think of it people who spend Christmas alone…..well as the old saying goes there is a reason for everything.

I know I know the above statement reeks of a holiday cliche but hey sometimes you have to go there.

Don’t know what it is about us Homo sapiens but always at the end of the year it is time to evaluate our lives.

Looking around are humble abodes looking at all of the junk we have acquired throughout the year.

Saying “ahhh look at all of my stuff.”

But that is all it is folks.

Stuff.

Stuff can be replaced, repurchased, or changed in most cases quite easily.

Note I did say quite easily there are of course the exceptions to pretty much every rule there is in life.

For example one of a kind items, artifacts etc etc.

But before we all get carried away counting all of our stuff.

Let us stop and think about one thing that I know that every single person who is reading this (and yes I know the server is probably getting bogged down with all of my faithful readers) but be patient my children.

A thing that most everybody over looks although it is so obvious.

If you are reading this you are still alive!

Maybe your life may be good or maybe not so good but bottom line you are still blinking your eyes and breathing.

Trust me life can come to an end so suddenly.

There is no second chance.

You can’t say damn I wish I would have done this or that.

When it’s over, it truly is over.

I am sure everyone remembers a very prominent mind in the electronics industry (think MP3 player, black turtle necks) dropped out of the public eye due to health reasons.

Then re-emerged frail looking but still around.

We also know this man has stuff.

And I mean a loooot of stuff.

Yet even with all of his stuff his health undermined him.

Cars, planes, mansions and the list of his stuff goes on and on.

But I am willing to bet you that I am sure he would trade all of his stuff for one thing.

That being his health.

Since no matter how much stuff you have, if you don’t have your health realistically you don’t really have anything.

Ah tis the season that everyone starts to make those grand plans for next year.

Oh ya next year I am going to………… and I am sure everyone out there has had that statement roll off their lips and  then have it  dissipate into nothingness.

Of course the most popular are next year I am going to lose some weight. Or next year I am going to quit smoking.

The gyms just love late Dec and early January since the enrollment at these times goes through the roof.

But of course most gyms make you sign on for a year or more to get their “reduced rate” and what ends up happening?

You go once or twice and then say screw it and then you are stuck with the monthly dues for the next 11 months.

So a little suggestion for you. If you are feeling like you want to hit the old gym with a vengeance starting in the new year. Opt in for a free one week trial or go to your local recreation center and just do a couple of drop ins.

Test the waters so to speak. Since the last thing anyone wants to do is get stuck in a year contract.

Moving on to the next most popular “resolution” I am going to quit smoking.

We have the brave who jump up and declare I am going cold turkey!

Although I have never smoked in my life I have heard that nicotine is kind of addicting??

Or there are the others that take a more realistic approach and say I am going to cut back.

Ya know from a pack to half a pack.

For some reason I don’t think the old tobacco companies shake in their boots as the new year approaches.

Since they have made such a delicious mix of carcinogen with a splash of tobacco that they have you until you get fitted for your shiny new tracheotomy tube.

Ah the joys of smoking.

As far as myself. Don’t smoke, drink and not over weight so what is left for little old me?

Was just cleaning out my email account today and I came across a plethora of all of the “twitter” followers who have come and gone in my life.

If only I have my twitter account tweaked to accept every Tom, Dick and Harry that added me to their account I am sure I would have a much more sizable following.

Oh wouldn’t that be grand. Wow look at all of my followers who have no real interest in anything I have to say but look at the numbers!

Wow you really have a big list.

But unfortunately just like in the real world size really doesn’t matter much.

But to some, maybe the type of person who maybe buys a sports car for attention, or mutilates their body for attention.

The size of their “list” makes them maybe feel hmm let me say maybe superior?

Ya well I have 10,000 followers how many do you have?

Well since you have that many followers y0u must be important?

Or maybe you are a demigod and everything you have to say is so life changing ” Like if you are looking for insurance in Moronville check me out”  that so many people await for an update?

I am sure everyone has heard of free email addresses?

One of the old boys on the block is of course hotmail. (but with the log in feature requiring you to type in your whole email address the popularity of this one is falling to the curbside.) Along with the fact if you do not log into your account for 3 months you loose everything. Addresses, emails, saved documents.You are still able to get into your account but while it has been dormant anyone who attempted to send email to that address has had their email bounced back to them. So seriously folks what good is the account?

No addresses, files emails gone and anyone who attempted to send you email to that address had it returned to them giving them the impression that you have  dropped off the face of the earth.

Just some things to consider if you choose to get a hotmail account

Come to think of it I think that was probably one of my first if not my first free email address.

But as the old saying goes times they are a changing so now there are more companies offering free email addresses than you can shake a stick at.

My personal favorite is the big G.

Yahoo also does offer free email but it is very buggy at least for me.

No letting me log out, freezing, not letting me open emails etc. So I avoid Yahoo if I can.

As far as the space allotted to your free email account they are pretty much all the same these days.

There is tons of space in all of them.

I think Yahoo is offering unlimited space?? Don’t quote me on that one but do to the glitches that I encounter when attempting to use that account there is nothing that they could offer me to really make me choose them.

Ok now to the purpose of this post.

Why everyone should have a free email address.

Well to start out with it is free.

And there is nothing that attracts the human species quite like the word free.

Now this second point still to this day makes me scratch my head.

People using their own personal email addresses at home or sometimes even their work email addresses and then complaining that they are getting spammed?

Hello???People don’t use that address.

But I should digress the email marketing in the past years has completely changed.

If you opt into getting a free newsletter, video, report etc on the bottom if the website is legit and they are on the up and up the will be using an auto responder.

After signing up for the free what ever you will be sent an email with the information that you requested along with at the bottom a link to unsubscribe from the emails also.

Now I know there are some of you nay sayers out there saying but how do I know that my email address will not be sold to someone else and bring on the spam.

Well once again any legitimate company will be  using an auto responder (like myself) due to the convenience and the ability to stop sending people email if they do not want you to send it to them any more.

But an even more important factor is that you are using a FREE email account!

Which means you do not have to worry if you accidentally signed up for a contest and later on you are being bombarded with spam.

A little note on contests I find them personally to be responsible for a majority of spam that I get.

The ones like look under the bottle cap and enter the numbers you see but before you do that you have to register??

Which requires you to input your email address.

Folks get yourself a free email address.

Bottom line.

Keep your personal email addresses like your home computer email address and your work email addresses close and don’t use them to enter anything.

This of course is not going to prevent you from getting spam.

Have you ever wondered how your personal email address may have slipped into the wrong hands?

Where you have never entered any kind of contest or given it out to any kind of source?

Well just think I am sure we all have friends who love to forward us funny videos, jokes etc.

And if they are not aware of the difference between bbc cc then when ever they forward the joke etc to you and the dozens of other people on their email list all of the people on the list can see your email address.

And from there… well you can figure the rest out.

So folks go get yourself a free email address. And enter the contests, get the free reports, videos etc.

Yes twitter the new word in modern day English.

Twitter me this twitter me that.

But why should you twitter?

Well there a host of reasons to twitter but I am just going to look at a few important ones for the people that are using it to promote their business.

Although I should mention there is a big difference between using it and abusing it.

For example. I have come across numerous people who when upon closer look at their “twitter” home page is nothing but blatant advertising.

You would be a fool not to check out…

The same thing promoting their business over and over and over again.

And amazingly enough I have also seen some of these pages with followers in the thousands?

Now this leads me to the point is how important are those large numbers of followers?

I really have no idea how a twitter page would look like with a 1000 people being followed.

And to be perfectly honest I have no interest.

Due to the fact it would look like a bloody mess.

Plain and simple.

Since some people incessantly are updating their pages every 5 minutes.

So let us do some simple math here you are following 1000 people and a small portion of those people are chronically  updating minute by minute.

So what kind of mess would you have to look at when you open up your twitter account?

It would be overwhelming to be quite honest.

And then we have the people who are following 10’s of thousands and some with 100’s of thousands and the list goes on and on.

I am not even going to go there with that their twitter page would look like.

But now for a reality check.

Twitter is not a numbers game folks.

Just because some stupid ass celebrities get on tv and challenge each other to see how many followers they can get?

Ya I remember back in grade 3 how cool it was to see how many marbles one could get.

As stupid as that example seems the underlying theme is generally the same.

Yes a big bucket of marbles is about as useful as a big group of followers.

For those of you new to the “twitter” game.

You often see people shortening their tweets.

Tinyurl, bit.ly etc.

Now some think ah the reason for this is to conserve space since you only have 140 characters you can put into your tweets.

Yes this does help save some of the valuable space on your tweets.

But what is also does it enables the poster to see how many people actually clicked on that link.

Hence how many of their “Followers” actually cared about what they said.

And the numbers are well let me put it this way less than flattering.

It may be the “follower” whom is on their list is probably on 1000’s of other people’s list and most people do not have the time or are just generally have no interest in reading what so and so did today.

So bottom line folks. There is no need for a big list.

I use twitter for SEO.

Every time I tweet I have my browser set up that I can see that when I search results for my web page.

How did I get people to follow me?

This is still a mystery to me.

Have no idea how that happened.

But I know that there is a unwritten code in “twitter land” that if someone adds you to their list you should do the same?

Well folks I don’t live in “twitter land” and have no interest in playing by those rules.

I do check most people’s pages who add me (if time permits) to their list but rarely and I mean rarely find anything that would encourage me to add me to follow them

And once they find that I don’t play by “the rules” they quickly disappear.

It is nothing personal here folks. But twitter is a tool for me.

I am aware that the few followers that are on my list don’t click on my links to my blog etc.

Hey no problem their either.

I do it for SEO.

So my only advice for those people out there that are also using twitter as a tool.

Don’t abuse it.

Since we all know there are changes coming to “twitterland.”

The blatant self promoters who have nothing to say but check out my business, check out my business.

Well I would tend to think they would have the most to worry about.

I know everyone out there has a song that brings them down the old proverbial memory lane.

When you hear that song it brings you right back to the place and time and conjures the feelings that were felt at that exact time. Be them good or bad.

To be honest yes I do have a whole library of songs that I am often led back to when a certain song is played.

And looking at these songs a little more closely I quickly realize that a large portion of them are of good memories.

I will not deny that mixed in with those good memories there are of course those songs that remind me when I was young and I broke up with one of my girlfriends.

Ah good times good times.

And it was at that time I thought life was over. Ah to be young and naive once again.

Even today there are some songs that really have no significance in my life other than they strike an internal cord within me.

Be it the lyrics, the beat or the lead singer’s voice.

Well if you are already not aware of this there are only 20 something days left until Christmas.

It is not like the media doesn’t  remind us on a daily basis about the old count down clock. (Thanks guys!)

When I think of Christmas I think of my child hood memories. You know the ones I am talking about.

Waking up at 3am to see if Santa had left his payload for you to shred into later on in the morning.

When you rounded the corner to the room which held the mighty gift tree you found yes indeed Santa had been and left a mountain of presents.

Which of course brought on heart palpitations (yes even when you were 8 years old)

Which then progressed  into the dance of joy

Followed by slowly walking over to the tree of gifts and taking  a quick peek to see which ones were for you.

But wait is that foot steps you hear behind you?

No it can’t be.

No no!

You are busted!

The voice in the shadows(in my case was my mother’s) go back to bed!

So you begrudgingly drag your feet and walk back to your room.

Thinking all along if only I had been quieter I could have maybe even tried to take a peek inside one of the corners of the gifts.

Of course I would never open it. Now would I??

So since I was only 8 years old there and this was a few years ago. Just a few.

I had no idea what time it was when I was in my room.

There was no alarm clock to wake me up. My alarm clock was my mother.

The most accurate alarm clock to this day that I have ever encountered.

So for the next 3 hours I would toss and turn thinking what was inside that big gift right under the tree with my name on it?

The one that Santa had left for me.

Yes I know the above statement may be dated but it hits home does it not?

With the invention of the information highway and all of its virtues be they good or bad there has emerged (well they have been around for awhile now) a whole new type of business man.

The get rich quick artists. You know the ones I am talking about. Buy my program and your computer will start spitting out money.

If only it were true, if only it were true.

Now let us take a closer look at their claims and the major flaw that most people seem to forget about.

Now let us think for just one minute. If you or I discovered a way  to make serious cash on the internet.

Why would we feel a need to tell anyone else?

I know that would be the last thing I would ever do.

Why let anyone else know how you were able to do this?

You wouldn’t need to do it for the money. Since you are making such serious cash with your own private little system

That appears to work great!

Why share the wealth?

And if it were so true that you were making such massive amounts of cash on the internet there would be no reason to sell the information.

You could just give it away.

If you were so concerned about sharing your information  that has made you a “millionaire” so many times over as you claim.

Well the reason folks is rather simple.

The money that is made is from selling you the dream.

Bottom line folks if it sounds to good to be true impossible well then as the old saying goes then it probably is.

This is not to say there are not reputable marketers out there. Myself included in the batch.

But don’t be taken aback from those websites with the flashing lights and the endless bonuses.

I always look at a website that is offering so many bonuses I would tend to think the reason for that is that maybe just maybe the core product that they are trying to sell you may be weak perhaps??

So in order for you to turn a blind eye so to speak to that they over load you with bonuses, bonuses and more bonuses.

When I first put up  my site Complain To Gain I did not offer any free bonuses. I felt so confident about my product that I thought hey it is well worth the price alone. There is  no way that I am going to throw a whole lot of useless bonuses to try to entice someone to buy it.

But I did finally cave and put up bonuses that I created myself and I would compliment my book.

I think in this day and age and with the internet and the vast amount of resources on it that it is so easy to be able to produce a product.

Note here folks I said produce not create.

Cut and paste here and there an bam you have yourself a product.

But being an old school type  honest pay for an honest days work I set out to create a product that I wrote myself without any of the resources available to me.

Everything from inside the old shoulder separator.

Call me crazy or call me optimistic but I know there are people out there that appreciate original material and those are the clients that I am after.
